NSWGR CT 500

The NSWGR constructed 8 500 Class trailers as companions to the 400 Class railmotors. Almost identical in design to the 200 Class 'Silver City Comet' passenger cars (minus air conditioning), they were pressed into service in 1938, working out of Dubbo and Narrandera but ending their career in the state's north west, modified as Silver City Comet parcels cars or working with CPH railmotors on the Illawarra line.
Initially the 500 Class were coded CT (501 - 504) and FT (505 - 508), the CT seating 24 first and 33 second class and FT seating 59 second class passengers.
As with most NSW rollingstock, the 500 Class saw many modifications, including fitting 4 with a luggage/parcels compartment
The cars saw little use towards the end of their careers, with the 400 Class railmotors easily coping with the dwindling branch line passengers. They were withdrawn with the 400 Class in 1983.
