NZR Ka class

NZR Ka class

New Zealand Railways Ka class. Built form original model by Bill fock (Billigulla).
The need for a new and larger mixed traffic loco that could cope with increasing traffic of 1930's, so the K was born. The Ka's were powerful locomotives, squashed to fit the tight NZR loading gauge of the time, resuilting in a very tightly packed loco.
The K's were built to burn oil. The Ka's spent mose of the lives being thrashed up and down the North Island Main Trunk. All were withdrawn by 1967 at the end of steam on the Trunk. Three remain today, K935, 942 & 945.
