VR Double Track 2x30ft Steel Girder Concrete Deck Bridge with Splayed Wing Walls

This is a fixed bridge of 2 x 30ft spans/openings of Steel Girder, Concrete Deck construction with an abutment provided with Splayed Wing Walls, designed to accomodate a Double set of tracks (on 3.5 meter spacings), as designed by the VR Ways and Works Department for use from 1945 onwards. The embankment of this variant has been modified so as to permit a set of standard Double Track rails (on 3.5 meter spacings) or a standard two lane road to pass under the bridge on either side of the pier, so that it may used as a 'rail over rail' or 'rail over road' bridge at the user's descretion. The bridge is constructed from the components of the VR 30ft Steel Girder Concrete Deck Spline Bridge but is intended to stand alone where a 60 ft (20 meters) span only is required at a maximum 20 ft (7 meters) height above ground level.
