In a 40 some year career as a truck mechanic, I worked on a bunch of Maggot Wagons over the years. Garbage trucks are an excellent barometer of what society really is without all the fluff and window dressing. Behind the seat in every one was always collection of porn magazines! And I saw mice living in the cabs frequently. Why not? A constant food source and a warm place to stay. They would come and get on the dash and look out the windshield while the truck was in the shop. Garbage trucks typically are poorly maintained. They take an awful beating broken springs are common. I used to be able to show up for my shift at 4 PM and change an engine in the old Cornbinders and have it delivered back to the dump by 2 AM. My fondest memory of maggot wagons was finishing them. They were no picnic to work on!
