Erie Northern Demo 3

This the demonstration session for the Erie Northern route, Beta 3<KUID:87783:1027> June 2009.

Erie Northern has several interesting features that need some explanation for new surveyors. Among them are the three programable turntables, which can be fully controlled by driver commands. This demo session has working examples of how to program a turntable so the loco can drive up to it and rotate it to face the loco. Then, still under AI control, the loco can drive onto the turntable, rotate again to a roundhouse track and drive into that track. After waiting a short time, the loco will pull back out onto the turntable, rotate it again and drive off. It's really pretty cool to watch, especially when it happens as part of a larger session. Your train can pull into the yard, disconnect the loco and drive to any stall you wish in the roundhouse, all automatically.

Erie Northern also has several single-ended stations, at Erie, Buffalo and Montrose. At Erie and Buffalo, you have to use a Y-track and back into the station. Montrose is a bit different, and only has room for you to turn the loco. The demo session contains working examples of all three stations.

Beta 3 adds three industry examples: coal, limestone, and logs/lumber, plus examples of how to run a never-ending route between two portals, how to add automatic loco bells and horns at the passenger stations, and examples of iPortal and Portal Manager programming--20 trains in all.

Finally, the demo also has two passenger trains that run the whole main line, for those who'd like to just jump in the cab and take a tour of the route. One local commuter train, located near the Pittsburgh portals, stops at every main line station to load passengers. At the eastern end of the route, near the Washingon portals, a long-distrance train is poised to run the entire route without stopping. You can let either train run on autopilot or take over yourself. The express train takes about 34 minutes and the commuter train about 40 minutes.

Most trains have a 30-minute wait in the schedule. To start the train, delete the wait and watch the action. Or start them all at the same time, in which case it will take about 45 minutes for the demo. Enjoy!
