CLMW F7A

Produced between February 1949 and December 1953, the Electro-Motive Division F7 is a 1,500 horsepower diesel-electric road locomotive. With over 3,800 units sold, it was the most popular of EMD's F-series. The Cleveland and Midwestern purchased a batch of these locomotives in 1950, and they quickly became the railroad's primary road power on both freight and passenger trains, displacing steam engines. These locomotives would serve as primary road power up until 1975, when new SD40-2s would arrive on the railroad. Though they would find themselves pushed to the side from primary freight road service by the SD40-2s, they would often find themselves as backup power on various trains whenever an SD40-2 was unavailable. However, like the SW7s of the CLMW, the F7s would find their 16-567B prime movers replaced in a rebuild by the 12-645E, producing the same 1,500 horsepower. This has given the F7s a new lease on life, and they are expected to serve for years to come.
