CLMW SW7

Built between October 1949 and January 1951, the Electro-Motive Division SW7 is a 1,200 horsepower diesel electric end cab switcher locomotive. Over five hundred were built between the base SW7 model as well as the TR4 cow-calf variant. Most were built at EMD plant number 3 in Cleveland, Ohio. As such, it was a short trip to a new home when the Cleveland and Midwestern purchased a batch in 1949. These locomotives were the first diesel electric locomotives on the railroad, and displaced steam power in the yards and on local freight service. Rebuilt with the 12-645E prime mover slightly derated to the original 1200 horsepower, the SW7s have a brand new lease on life and will serve for years to come.
