RI 77000 series stockcar

The Rock Island acquired 5,500 B-2 boxcars from several builders between 1913 and 1915. The design was a clone of the Fowler-patent boxcars with all patented components redacted to avoid royalties. Due to their 40 ton capacity, the B-2 boxcars were obsolete within a decade of construction. In the 1940s, approximately 600 of the surviving boxcars were converted into 77000 and 79000 class stockcars. These classes continued in revenue service into the 1960s.
