D&RG Class 42 #95

Denver & Rio Grande #95 was named Embuda when built by Baldwin in 1880. It was built as a wood burner, but was converted to a coal burner early on. The D&RG classified it as a class 42 4-4-0. The 42s were used as passenger power early on, but started being replaced by 4-6-0s in the early 1880s. The 4-4-0s didn't have the power to get 4 or 5 car passenger trains up the steeper lines without helpers. The 4-4-0s were retired early, the last one made it to 1908. Many of them were sold used to logging lines and shortlines around the country. #95 was sold with #99 to the Sanford & St Petersburg RR of Florida in January 1894.
