AB&A K-1 2-8-2 Enginespec
Enginespec for Atlanta, Birmingham, & Atlantic K-1 class 2-8-2 as described in BLW spec. book 43 page 83. The K-1s were a class of fairly early 2-8-2s (circa 1912) which appeared to be derived from a modern 2-8-0 design. As such, they rode on short, 57 inch drivers instead of the 63 inch driver which would soon become the defacto standard.
An unusual feature fitted to the type was a Gaines firewall. The dimensions of the firebox would have allowed for a 78-square-foot grate area, but the Gaines firewall blocked the front 3 or 4 feet of grates to create a pseudo combustion chamber in the space.
