Central Pacific 4-4-0 Jupiter

Central Pacific #60, the Jupiter, was one of 4 4-4-0s built by Schnectady Locomotive Works in mid 1868 for the Central Pacific Railroad. #60, like all Central Pacific locomotives, was shipped by sea around Cape Horn in South America. There isn't a known date for when Jupiter arrived in Sacramento, but it is suspected to be January or Febuary 1869. Jupiter was built as a wood burner and was used as a dual purpose locomotive, running on freight and passenger trains in California and Nevada.
On May 10th, 1869, Jupiter faced Union Pacific's #119 when the rails of the Union Pacific and the Central Pacific were connected, completing the first Transcontinental Railroad.
There is debate as to how Jupiter ended up so far away from its normal region, but the most likely is that it was on the point of a regularly scheduled passenger train headed towards Promontory Summit. There was a second train, hauling Govenor Stanford's car that hit a log that had fallen across the tracks. The engine sustained damage, but nobody was seriously injured. The Govenor's car was added to Jupiter's train at Wadsworth. The Jupiter and train arrived at Promontory Point on May 7th, a day early. Due to unforseen circumstances on the Union Pacific side of things (an angry mob of workers demanding their wages) the ceremony didn't take place on 8th, instead it took place on the 10th.
In 1891, Jupiter became Southern Pacific #1195. In 1893, she was rebuilt with a new boiler, domes, stack, and an extended smokebox. #1195 was sold to the Gila Valley, Globe, & Northern in 1894, becoming their #1. GVG&N 1, ex SP 1195, nee-CP 60 was scrapped in 1906 in Globe, Arizona.

Drivers: 60 in
Cylinders: 16 x 24 in
Weight: 65,450 lbs
Note on the data: This model is based mostly on Virginia & Truckee #22, since I have just one drawing of Jupiter. V&T 22 is similar, but by no means identical. V&T 22 was modified to look like Jupiter during the 1969 gold spike centennial celebration. V&T 22 data:
Drivers: 57 in
Cylinders: 16 x 24 in
