Holyhead Breakwater 1976

By 1976 stone was no longer sourced from the nearby Holyhead Quarry. Instead the stone was brought in by lorry from Penrhyn Quarry and deposited at the shed or wharf for loading onto the larger Conflat type wagons by the mobile crane. This session depicts a typical outing during 1976 for sole operational class 01 01002 from the Holyhead Breakwater shed on to the Holyhead wharf to pick up a load of stone for delivering to the travelling crane at the end of the Breakwater. Also in action is Wickham trolley TR23 which runs ahead of the class 01 on the outward journey and behind it returning to the mainland to transport operations staff to the unloading crane.
